Welcome to the Blog: Power Shapes Truth, Truth Decides Who Survives

A first post from dark epic fantasy author Jasper Stone: what this blog is for, where to start reading, and how to get The Mark of Oblivion free.

Every world I write starts with the same question: who gets to decide what is true? In the Dominion, it is a Church that weeps over what it consumes. In Valdris, it is a guild of cartographers whose maps are verdicts. The answer changes, but the stakes never do. Power shapes truth. Truth decides who survives.

This blog is where I'll talk about that: the worlds, the people trapped inside them, and the strange, slow work of building a fantasy series one impossible choice at a time.

What you'll find here

  • Behind the books. Where the ideas came from, what got cut, and why certain scenes exist.

  • Character and world deep dives. Cora Veylan, Petra Voss, the Weeping Spire, and the Hollow beneath it.

  • Reading guides. Reading order, what to pick up first, and what to expect from dark epic fantasy if you're new to it.

  • Writing notes. The craft side, for readers who like to see the scaffolding.

I'll post every week through the end of the year. Nothing here will spoil the books beyond what the back covers already tell you.

Where to start

If you've never read me, start with The Mark of Oblivion. It's a standalone, it's free when you join my reader list, and it's the cleanest introduction to the kind of story I tell: an ordinary person, a system built on erasure, and a map that decides who is allowed to exist.

If you want something longer, The Weeping Spire Trilogy is complete. Three books, one Inquisitor, and a faith that does not survive being looked at too closely. You can get the paperbacks individually or all three in one bundle, and the ebooks are listed on the eBooks page.

A note on the publisher

My books are published by Jove Publishing LLC, a small independent press. Buying direct from their shop is the best way to support the work.

Thanks for being here. Next week: a proper reading-order guide, including the question I hear most. Do you need to read The Mark of Oblivion before the trilogy? Short answer: no. Longer answer next Tuesday.
